In August 2010, the first-ever Youth Olympic Games was successfully held in Singapore. Envisioned by the IOC President Jacques Rogge, the Youth Olympic Games inspired young people around the world to participate in sport and adopt and live by the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship, and Respect.
From 14 to 26 August 2010, 3,530 athletes from 205 National Olympic Committees gathered in Singapore to compete in this new sporting event of the highest international standards, and took part in a Culture and Education Programme that examined five themes using seven formats that were delivered across 50 activities.
