Distinguished Guests
Ladies and Gentlemen

Thank you for joining us this morning, to witness the signing of the sponsorship agreement between the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (SYOGOC) and Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel).

On behalf of SYOGOC, let me first extend a warm welcome to SingTel to the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games family. SingTel is Asia's leading telecommunications company and Singapore’s largest company by market capitalisation. We are proud and privileged that SingTel has chosen to partner us in the organisation of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

Multimedia services are essential for the success of any international event in today’s environment. They are even more pertinent for Singapore 2010 for two reasons.

Firstly, Singapore 2010 is a multi-sport event with competitions and activities held across numerous venues. The full range of voice and data communications services, and data centre infrastructure services provided by SingTel will help the Organising Committee, team officials, athletes and volunteers stay connected and kept updated on the latest happenings in and around the Youth Olympic Games. The services will also facilitate the timely dissemination of critical information – for example, competition schedules and results – to the media and public at large.

Secondly, the primary audience of Singapore 2010 is youth, and as we all know, the young people of today cannot survive without their mobile phones and the internet. Singapore 2010 thus leverages heavily on the New Media to reach out to youths here and around the world. Our engagement efforts are greatly aided by SingTel with the development of applications for website and mobile services. Through Singtel’s innovative applications, we are able to share our Culture and Education Programme, an integral component of Singapore 2010, with youth in a captivating and engaging manner.

With SingTel coming on board, we can look forward to an even exciting and vibrant Youth Olympic Games. On top of the nine (9) TOP sponsors, we now have 10 sponsors from the Tier 1 and 2 categories for Singapore 2010. We are truly heartened by the strong and positive support for the Games so far, especially given current economic conditions. These companies recognise the value of being associated with the global and prestigious Olympic brand, as well as the branding and marketing opportunities that come with the partnership.

We will continue to seek meaningful partnerships with companies in various industries to help us organise a memorable and successful Youth Olympic Games.  Just as SingTel has come forward, I would like to encourage other companies to make the best of the many sponsorship opportunities available in this first Youth Olympic Games.

Once again, I thank SingTel for their commitment and support, and welcome them as our Official Partner in Multimedia Services. Thank you.
