Village olympique de la jeunesse

The Youth Olympic Village (YOV) will accommodate all 5,000 plus athletes and team officials of the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) for a maximum period of 18 days, from 10 to 28 August 2010. An additional pre-opening period of 2 days has been scheduled in the event that Chefs De Mission of the NOCs need the additional time to complete the housing and administrative matters prior to the arrival of their teams.

Located amidst lush greenery of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Campus, the YOV will provide comfortable, but not lavish accommodation and services to the athletes and officials such that all will have a uniquely memorable experience. The YOV has a quiet and serene environment that is conducive and safe for the athletes to rest peacefully, prepare for competition, and in their free time socialise freely and participate in specially designed culture and education activities.

The YOV is mainly divided into two zones: Residential Zone (RZ) and Village Square (VS). The RZ is further organized into five clusters for easy orientation by the Residents. Resident Halls (Halls 3, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16) will each be serviced by a Resident Centre with a front desk and be well-supported by common facilities such as TV lounge, meeting rooms, wireless internet hot-spot access, shared business centre and medical spaces. Laundry services will also be provided.

In addition, the RZ also offers several training facilities for the athletes, an airy dining hall, a Digital Media Centre including internet centre, recreation activities, a medical centre and doping sample collection spaces. A shared services centre in the RZ will support the administrative needs of National Olympic Committees (NOCs), while the daily Chef de Mission meeting chaired by the Village Mayor will be conducted just adjacent to it.

The VS is the heart of the Village where most accredited personnel, including pre-approved guests of NOCs would have access to. The focal point the World Culture Village exhibition where the history and culture of all 205 NOCs will be featured. Musical performances, concerts, culture and educational programmes, dialogues with Olympians, and various other forums on sport-related topics will be held at the VS as well.

For the convenience of residents, retail shops will be made available at the VS, such as a bank providing a wide range of services including foreign currency exchange, a call centre where residents can make international phone calls, a general store, a post office and a ticketing office. To support the work of journalists, a Media Sub-Centre and a Broadcast Compound are also located in the VS.

The YOV will be a lively yet relaxed home-away-from-home for residents such that they can concentrate on sporting excellence, learn to live in respect of one another, and bring back fond memories of valuable friendships made during the stay in Singapore.
